Already, yet, just i still w skrócie

Already: już, wcześniej niż ktoś myślał

Already stawiasz zwykle między have a trzecią formą czasownika. W pytaniu na końcu zdania brzmi jak zdziwienie, że coś stało się tak szybko.

  • I’ve already paid. (Już zapłaciłem.)
  • The movie has already started. (Film już się zaczął.)
  • Are you leaving already? (Już wychodzisz?)

Yet: w pytaniach i przeczeniach, na końcu

Yet stoi na końcu zdania. W pytaniu znaczy „już”, w przeczeniu „jeszcze nie”.

  • Have you eaten yet? (Jadłeś już?)
  • I haven’t decided yet. (Jeszcze nie zdecydowałem.)

Just: przed chwilą

Just znaczy „właśnie”, „dopiero co”. Stoi między have a trzecią formą. Amerykanie bardzo często mówią też just z Past Simple i to jest w porządku.

  • I’ve just finished my workout. (Właśnie skończyłem trening.)
  • I just got home. (Dopiero co wróciłem do domu.)

Still: nadal, wciąż

Still mówi, że coś trwa dłużej, niż można by się spodziewać. Stoi przed głównym czasownikiem, ale po be.

  • I still live with my parents. (Nadal mieszkam z rodzicami.)
  • She’s still at work. (Ona jest jeszcze w pracy.)
  • Are you still hungry? (Nadal jesteś głodny?)

Still not czy not yet?

Not yet to spokojne „jeszcze nie”. Still stoi przed haven’t i dodaje zniecierpliwienia: to już powinno się stać.

  • I haven’t finished yet. (Jeszcze nie skończyłem.)
  • I still haven’t finished. (Nadal nie skończyłem.)
