Unless, in case i reszta w skrócie

Unless: jeśli nie, chyba że

Unless znaczy to samo co if not. Nie mówisz unless you don’t.

  • We’ll be late unless we leave now. (Spóźnimy się, jeśli zaraz nie wyjdziemy.)
  • I don’t eat dessert unless it’s someone’s birthday.

In case: na wypadek, gdyby

In case to zabezpieczenie: robisz coś teraz, bo coś może się stać później. To nie jest to samo co if. Take an umbrella in case it rains znaczy: weź parasol już teraz, bo może padać.

  • Take an umbrella in case it rains. (Weź parasol, na wypadek gdyby padało.)
  • I always keep some cash in case my card doesn’t work.
  • Call me if you need help. (Zadzwoń, jeśli będziesz potrzebować pomocy.)

As long as i provided that: pod warunkiem, że

Oba wyrażenia stawiają warunek. As long as słyszysz na co dzień, provided that brzmi bardziej oficjalnie, na przykład w umowach i regulaminach.

  • You can borrow my car as long as you fill up the tank.
  • You’ll get a refund provided that you keep the receipt.

Even if: nawet jeśli

Even if mówi, że warunek nic nie zmienia. Coś się stanie tak czy inaczej.

  • I’m going to the gym even if I’m tired. (Idę na siłownię, nawet jeśli jestem zmęczony.)
  • She won’t come even if you ask her nicely. (Ona nie przyjdzie, nawet jeśli ładnie poprosisz.)

Po tych słowach nie ma will

Tak jak po if, mówiąc o przyszłości, po unless, in case, as long as i even if używasz czasu teraźniejszego. Will zostaje w drugiej części zdania.

  • I’ll text you in case I’m late.
