See him leave: cała czynność
- I saw him leave the office at five. (Widziałem, jak wyszedł z biura o piątej.)
- She heard someone open the door and go upstairs.
See him leaving: czynność w trakcie
- When I walked past the café, I saw Tom sitting by the window.
- I could hear a baby crying in the background. (Słyszałem w tle płaczące dziecko.)
Bez to i bez formy przeszłej
Mówisz I saw her cry albo I saw her crying, nigdy I saw her cried.
- I’ve never heard her sing. (Nigdy nie słyszałem, jak śpiewa.)
- We watched them play tennis. (Patrzyliśmy, jak grają w tenisa.)
Smell i feel z -ing
Przy smell prawie zawsze używasz -ing, bo zapach czujesz w trakcie. Feel bierze obie formy, tak jak see.
- I can smell something burning. (Czuję, że coś się pali.)
- I felt the building shake. (Poczułem, jak budynek się zatrząsł.)
Strona bierna: was seen to do, was seen doing
W stronie biernej wraca to: was seen to leave. Forma z -ing zostaje bez zmian: was seen leaving. Tak brzmią wiadomości i raporty.
- The driver was seen to run a red light. (Widziano, jak kierowca przejechał na czerwonym.)
- Two men were seen entering the building. (Widziano dwóch mężczyzn wchodzących do budynku.)
