Polecenie: sam czasownik, bez you
Bierzesz podstawową formę czasownika i stawiasz ją na początku. Nie dodajesz you ani końcówek. To samo zdanie działa wobec jednej osoby i wobec całej grupy.
- Close the door. (Zamknij drzwi.)
- Be careful. (Uważaj.)
- Call me when you get home. (Zadzwoń, jak dojedziesz do domu.)
Zakaz: don’t + czasownik
Przeczenie robisz z don’t, także przy be. Nie mówisz not be ani be not.
- Don’t touch the stove. (Nie dotykaj kuchenki.)
- Don’t be late. (Nie spóźnij się.)
Let’s i let’s not: propozycja dla nas
Kiedy proponujesz coś sobie i innym, mówisz let’s i czasownik. Przeczenie to let’s not. Po let’s nie ma to.
- Let’s get a pizza. (Weźmy pizzę.)
- Let’s not wait for him. (Nie czekajmy na niego.)
Grzecznie: please, Could you…?, Would you mind…?
Samo polecenie bywa szorstkie. Dodaj please albo zamień je w pytanie. Po Would you mind czasownik ma końcówkę -ing.
- Please take a seat. (Proszę usiąść.)
- Could you pass me the salt? (Podałbyś mi sól?)
- Would you mind closing the window? (Mógłbyś zamknąć okno?)
Instrukcje i wskazówki, jak dojść
W przepisach, instrukcjach i przy tłumaczeniu drogi też używasz trybu rozkazującego. Tu nie brzmi on niegrzecznie, bo tylko podaje kroki.
- Go straight and turn left at the light. (Idź prosto i skręć w lewo na światłach.)
- Add the eggs and mix well. (Dodaj jajka i dobrze wymieszaj.)
